Albert Eden Edward Johnson was born in Fordham in 1886 (Newmarket Q1-1886 3B:567) the son of Elijah and Mary Jane JOHNSON (née EDEN).
1891 census...Aged 5 he was at The Chequers Inn, Carter Street, Fordham with his father Elijah JOHNSON [36] publican, born Soham and his mother Mary J. [36] born in Fordham. 1901 census...Aged 15, he was still at The Chequers with his parents and sisters Ada Lilian [17] and Gertrude [7] both born in Fordham. In 1906 he married Beatrice Minnie CORNELL (b.5-10-1886)(Newmarket Q2-1906 3B:1175). 1911 census...Aged 25, a bricklayer, he was at Mill Lane, Fordham with his wife Minnie [26] and sons Leonard [4] and Albert [1], all born in Fordham. By the time of his his death his widow was at Newmarket Road, Fordham with their children: Leonard Cornell (27-10-1906), Albert James (9-6-1909), Gordon Marchant (7-10-1912)and Eileen (1-3-1915). All this earned a pension of 33 shillings 9 pence (£1.68 per week |

He enlisted in Newmarket.
With no Army service record available and dying of his wounds it is almost impossible to say where or exactly when Albert was wounded. Dying at Etaples, on the Channel coast, it would have been a 2 to 3 days earlier at least. The 467th Field Coy., Royal Engineers were around Ecoust on 21st March 1918 the first day of the Kaiserschlacht, the German Spring offensive, so it is very probable that this was where and when Albert was hit.
